Julita, Sweden´s largest open air museum, is situated by Lake Öljaren in the region of Sörmland (about 140 km from the capital Stockholm). During medieval times Julita was a monastery, and still later a manor house owned by members of the Swedish nobility. In 1941 the last owner, Leutenant Arthur Bäckström, donated the entire Julita Estate to “Nordiska Museet” (Northern Museum) and thus the Swedish State.
