Julita is situated at lake Öljaren in the western part of the region of Sörmland. It is the world's largest open air museum. In medioeval times Julita was a monastery, then it belonged to the king and to some of Sweden's most important noble families. Julita was donated in 1941 to the Swedish state by its last private owner Arthur Bäckström.

International Chamber Music Festival
9-24 July, 2005

This is the 12th editino of the Julita Festival, held at Julita Manor House in Sörmland. During the course of the years, artists from more than 20 countries have taken part in this important musical event.

Varieties comprising medieval music to baroque, tango, opera, contemporary music, and, of course, what is known as classical chamber music, can be enjoyed in these unique Swedish surroundings. The main idea of the festival is to promote young and internationally promising musicians, and also to offer a varied programme, which underlines the musical uniqueness of each country. This summer winners from the "1st Swedish International Duo Competition" will also perform.

Light summer refreshments are offered in the beautiful park surroundings of the Manor House. The founder and artistic director of the festival is Swedish pianist Carl Pontén.
